If you are an artist visiting this site, you are probably seeking support or guidance. But do you need to hire someone to help you with this? Not always!
I have worked with hundreds of artists, while simultaneously experiencing the cycle of ups and downs of my art practice, and one thing is certain: the key to success is having those believing eyes you can call on, a.k.a backup.
You can find backup in many ways, but it usually consists of peers or mentors in your field who believe in you, understand your work, and whom you can turn to for honest feedback. Backup is an artist's greatest resource. So many challenges common to every artist – such as self-doubt or lack of clarity – can be paralyzing or create unnecessary work and struggle that get in your way.
Our backup keeps us moving forward instead of spiraling out.
It is important to recognize who is the right backup for your needs, and that this changes over time as your practice changes and evolves. Intimidated to ask for help? Offer support and time to others you feel in alignment with. Create alliances and situations of reciprocity that are rewarding for all and strengthen your creative community.
When the help you need is just not there, because your task is too large, or you need specialized guidance beyond what those you have access to can give, it is an appropriate time to consider hiring someone!
