Guggenheim Application Season is Here!

It's that time of year again.

*This is geared toward US/Canadian arts discipline applicants to the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship

Are you an artist who has decided to apply to the Guggenheim Fellowship? First of all, congratulations! The decision to throw your hat in the ring is already a milestone.

I am proud to know and to have worked with some amazing artists who have received this fellowship at pivotal points in their careers, and I can assure you, that while it may feel like the unattainable holy grail, it is possible.

The key is to apply when you feel ready and to do all you can to represent your work in the best light. What I love about this application is how rewarding it is to complete and submit. Successfully submitting a thorough Guggenheim application is a rite of passage for any artist. This process involves narratively framing your practice and your career in a way that celebrates your distinct vision and accomplishments, leaving you with materials that benefit you in so many ways beyond one successful application.

Year-round, I offer career positioning and grant writing support to late-emerging to mid-career artists who create challenging work: i.e interdisciplinary, between genres, conceptual, ephemeral, performative, and socially engaged; and artists who, due to age, gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation, or disability, are more vulnerable to the inequities of the art world. From mid-July to mid-September I focus on artists applying for the Guggenheim Fellowship. If you are an artist who has applied to the Guggenheim before, you know it is an epic journey. I can help!

This summer, I am offering a few options for Guggenheim Fellowship application support:

  1. One-off consultations including one hour of review and line edits of your materials and a one-hour live feedback session $150. Bookings can be made on my website, or by emailing me. Please contact me if you require availability outside of the hours you see. (Guggenheim-specific package discount available for 3 booked at once).

  2. Work with me from beginning to end on the overall strategy and the drafting and revision of the project statement, career narrative, and list of works. The general cost for a complete cycle (10 hours combined of editing/review and live check-ins) is $650. For those who have applied before and wish to focus on one main aspect of the grant, a half-cycle (5 hours combined of editing/review and live check-ins) is an option at $350. Due to time restrictions, I can only commit to a handful of artists in this capacity, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Priority is given to pre-existing clients. If you are interested, please contact me directly by the end of July. **I offer a complementary call to determine if this option is a good fit and to strategize.

  3. NYFA! If you are unable to partake in any of the above but you'd love someone to make sure you are on the right track, I offer a one-on-one coaching session through NYFA called "Writing about your work" - it is a 40-minute Zoom meeting that includes a quick (15-20 min) review of your text before we meet. $80 *To go this route, click here, scroll down to options, and click Coaching to find me!
